Update for Coronavirus

19th Mar 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian

I am sure you are fully aware that the Minister of Education has announced that all schools will close on Friday for all pupils. Confusing announcements were made by the both the Prime Minister and the First Minister earlier this evening.  These announcements were later followed by an email from the Minister of Education for Northern Ireland, which stated the following…

‘Schools, pre-schools, and statutory nurseries will close at the end of the day on Friday 20th March for all pupils and children.’

Your child’s teacher, assistant/s and the entire school staff have been working incredibly hard to prepare a home learning pack for your child.  As explained earlier this week this will be largely controlled via our website and Seesaw.  A lot of worksheets and activities have been collated and each week your child’s teacher will explain how these can be used.  As we are unsure of the length of time or how long school will be closed and the short term, we plan to give out work on a 2-weekly cycle. Your first pack contains work for the 2 weeks before Easter. Keep an eye on Facebook and Seesaw so you know when to come to collect the work. If at any point this process becomes impossible, staff will communicate activities through our website and Seesaw platforms.

Your first pack will be available for collection from the front entrance between 1.00pm and 3.00pm on Friday.  Please practise recommended social contact routines when in the school building.

I cannot stress enough that if you are self-isolating for any reason related to coronavirus you cannot personally collect these packs, please ask a friend, neighbour or another parent to do this for you.

As a school we wish you all well, this has been a very strange week for all of us.  Thank you for your numerous messages of encouragement and support.  I also want to publicly thank our staff who as I knew they would, have responded to this challenge in an exceptionally professional, supportive and passionate manner. I couldn’t have got through the past few weeks without them!

We will really miss seeing your children on a daily basis but look forward to reading your messages and seeing pictures on Seesaw of what you are all doing as you self-isolate.

Be safe everyone and hopefully we will all be back in school soon.

Yours faithfully

Miss K McClean

Acting Principal
